Does Ship&co support sending Electronic Advance Data (EAD) with Japan Post International

Ship&co fully supports the Transmission of Electronic Advance Data (EAD) for customs clearance and send Electronic Advance Data (EAD) for all Japan Post International shipping labels created with Ship&co.

Note: Starting from January 1, 2021, the Transmission of Electronic Advance Data (EAD) for customs clearance became obligatory in the Universal Postal Union. 

To the United States

For the United States, the "STOP Act", which is a law in the United States, notifies that mail items for which customs electronic data has not been sent will be returned to you. 

To European countries/territories

For the European countries and territories, the customs have strengthened the requirement for EAD starting from October 2021, causing a returned item for several parcels due to the missing EAD. In order to avoid that, from June 20, 2022, the postal items to European countries/territories with handwritten labels will not be accepted.

To the Republic of Korea

Starting from July 1, 2022, The Republic of Korea revised its Customs Acts to strengthen the requirement for Electronic Advance Data (EAD). Therefore, there is a greater risk that international mail items sent to the Republic of Korea without EAD or with insufficient/inaccurate EAD may be delayed or returned to the sender.

Changes effective March 1st, 2024

There is a growing worldwide requirement to transmit Electronic Advance Data (EAD). As a result, handwritten labels will no longer be accepted for packages containing items subject to customs duties. You can use a label creation feature from Ship&co to transmit EAD.

*Currently, Japan Post accept postal items without EAD if customers agree to the risk that the item may be delayed in clearing customs or returned to the sender.
