When sending shipments to Mexico, FedEx only accepts 2 street lines of up to 35 characters each. If you’ve concatenated Address 2, Address 3 and the full state name on your second line, you’ll often exceed that limit.
Most of the time, the culprit is the state/region field—FedEx expects a two-letter state code, not the full name.
1. Use state codes, not full names
Replace the complete state name with its two-letter FedEx code:
Estado (full name) | Código FedEx |
---|---|
Aguascalientes | AG |
Baja California | BC |
Baja California Sur | BS |
Campeche | CM |
Chiapas | CS |
Chihuahua | CH |
Ciudad de México | DF |
Coahuila | CO |
Colima | CL |
Durango | DG |
Estado de México | EM |
Guanajuato | GT |
Guerrero | GR |
Hidalgo | HG |
Jalisco | JA |
Michoacán | MI |
Morelos | MO |
Nayarit | NA |
Nuevo León | NL |
Oaxaca | OA |
Puebla | PU |
Querétaro | QE |
Quintana Roo | QR |
San Luis Potosí | SL |
Sinaloa | SI |
Sonora | SO |
Tabasco | TB |
Tamaulipas | TM |
Tlaxcala | TL |
Veracruz | VE |
Yucatán | YU |
Zacatecas | ZA |
2. Keep each street line ≤ 35 characters
If your second line is still too long, apply common Spanish abbreviations:
Original | Abbreviated |
---|---|
avenida | av. |
calle | c. |
carretera | ctr. |
colonia | col. |
santa | sta. |
número | no. |
departamento | dpto. |
By following these steps, both street lines will stay within FedEx’s limits and avoid the “address too long” error when shipping to Mexico.
