For international shipments, accurate customs details such as the HS Tariff Code, product category, and country of origin are crucial. Ship&co automatically syncs this information from your Shopify product in any orders to streamline the creation of commercial invoices, enhancing the efficiency of the customs process.
NEW: Since October 14th, 2025, Ship&co now supports country-specific HS codes from Shopify. When you add country-specific HS codes to your Shopify products, even for 8 or 10 digits, Ship&co will automatically use the appropriate code based on the destination country of each order.
Why It's Important
Correct customs data helps ensure that your international shipments are processed quickly and without issues at customs. This feature is particularly beneficial for Shopify sellers engaging in cross-border e-commerce. With country-specific HS codes, you can now provide more precise tariff classifications for different markets, ensuring accurate duty calculations and compliance with each country's customs requirements.
How to Add Customs Information in a Product page on Shopify
- Navigate to the Shopify Products page.
- Select the product to update.
- In the Shipping section, input the Country/Region of origin and the HS (Harmonized System) code:
- You can either enter an HS code directly (6 digits) or search for the code by entering a keyword related to the product.
- For country-specific codes: Click on "Add country-specific HS codes" to enter different codes for specific destination markets (e.g., a 10-digit code for the United States).
- Click 'Save'.
Note: While Shopify's default system uses 6-digit HS codes, you can now add country-specific 8 or 10-digit codes for more precise customs classification. Ship&co will automatically sync and use these country-specific codes when available.
How Ship&co Uses Country-Specific HS Codes
When you create an international shipment in Ship&co:
- Ship&co automatically detects the destination country of the order
- If a country-specific HS code exists for that destination in your Shopify product data, Ship&co will use it
- If no country-specific code is available, Ship&co will use the default 6-digit HS code
- The selected HS code will appear on the carrier's commercial invoice
Viewing Customs Information in Ship&co
Once synced, the customs information from Shopify appears as default selections in Ship&co under the product name. Country-specific HS codes will be automatically applied based on the shipment destination.
Using Customs Information for Shipping Labels and Invoices
To apply the synced customs information description on shipping labels and customs invoices instead of the product name:
- Go to the Ship&co settings page.
- Under "Commercial Invoice Preferences," select "Use Product Types instead of product name."
This ensures your products are described accurately and in compliance with international shipping regulations, reducing the risk of delays. With country-specific HS codes, your shipments will have even more accurate tariff classifications for each destination market.
